Short Reports on DeepTech Development Pathways

In the summer of 2023, the study “Alternative Development Pathways of Deep Technologies and Their Significance for Estonia” was completed. The study identified six DeepTech technologies or technology clusters that are expected to have the greatest potential impact on Estonia’s future development.

The technologies identified were:

  • Alternative protein and meat production
  • Wood biorefining
  • Digitized strain engineering
  • Embedded systems and semiconductor technologies
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Hydrogen technologies

The selection process considered Estonia’s potential to develop, manufacture, and commercialize these technologies, as well as their expected economic, social, health, environmental, and security impacts.

To make the study findings more accessible, Startup Estonia and the Estonian Foresight Centre jointly prepared a series of concise technology reports covering five technology clusters:

On 26 September 2023, a public seminar was held to present the study results. During the event, research leads from Civitta Estonia introduced the methodology used to evaluate and prioritize the technologies analyzed in the study.

The study was conducted by Civitta Estonia in collaboration with industry experts and was funded through the Startup Estonia programme (EU50651) with support from the European Regional Development Fund.
